Citymeals on Wheels threw its 24th Annual “Sunday Supper” at Restaurant DANIEL in Manhattan, hosted again this year by Co-President Chef Daniel Boulud. The event raised $960,000 which will be used to further the nonprofit’s mission of preparing and delivering more than 120,000 meals to New York City’s homebound elderly.

The evening included a live and silent auction, cocktail hour and three-course dinner accompanied by fine wine.

Boulud has been hosting Sunday Suppers for more than twenty years, inviting well-known culinary professionals to prepare multi-course meals at the fundraiser. The event, to date, has raised more than $12 million to fund home-delivered meals for vulnerable New Yorkers.

“Citymeals has been a helping hand to homebound elderly New Yorkers during the pandemic,” said Boulud in a statement. “It was great to come together, once again, in support of this essential organization, one that is very close to my heart. Many thanks to all of our guest chefs, sponsors, friends, and supporters who contributed to yet another unforgettable Sunday Supper at Restaurant DANIEL.”

During the pandemic, the need for meals spiked. Citymeals said it responded by delivering more than 5 million meals to elderly New Yorkers. The organization has since experienced a 10% increase in demand and is now serving over 20,000 meal recipients.

Citymeals on Wheels relies on volunteers to deliver emergency meals during holidays, emergencies and weekends to elderly New Yorkers, as well as provide support and companionship to those served. Last year, 19,865 volunteers gave more than 82,000 hours of service to Citymeals’ mission.

Citymeals has delivered 65 million weekend, holiday and emergency meals since its founding in 1981.
