New York City Blood Center pledges $1 for every blood donation to support Ukrainian refugees

The pledge drive is being coordinated through a partnership with the Global Blood Fund.

The New York City Blood Center has partnered with the Global Blood Fund to donate $1 for every blood donation made to support Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war.

The Global Blood Fund is a charitable organization that has been working to reduce worldwide inequities in blood safety and sufficiency since 2008. Similar campaigns in support of Ukrainian refugees are being rolled out with blood centers across the U.S.

According to Andrea Cefarelli, senior executive director at New York City Blood Center, taking part in the campaign is a natural extension of the nonprofit’s own mandate.

“As an organization that prides itself on providing essential services to those in need, we look for opportunities to partner with organizations that support humanitarian efforts both in our own communities and around the world.” said Cefarelli. “We’re grateful to our donors for not only showing up for their neighbors, but for the Ukrainians in need of safe shelter.”

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sparked several philanthropic endeavors, most of which have been dedicated to helping the more than 10 million people who have fled their homes in Ukraine to seek safety.
