Endorsements pile up for Carlucci
Despite not receiving the backing of the Rockland County Democratic Party last week, the endorsements from individual elected officials are piling up for state Sen. David Carlucci. And while the current party leadership isn’t backing him, former Rockland County Democratic Chair Vince Monte announced his support for the Independent Democratic Conference senator along with a slate of local officials Thursday night.
“I've supported David since his first campaign when he ran for Town Clerk of Clarkstown,” Monte said in a release. “David is a new breed of public official willing to represent all residents regardless of political party. He has been a strong advocate for Rockland and I fully support his campaign for re-election.”
Carlucci’s support on the Westchester County side of his district also is piling up. With Ossining Town Supervisor Sue Donnelly and Ossining Democratic Committee Chair Thomasina Laidley-Brown previously backing him, he now has the support of a pair of Ossining Village trustees as well.
The endorsements came after the Rockland County Democratic Committee said it was preparing to run its own candidate to primary Carlucci.
The incumbent senator withdrew his name from consideration for the Rockland County Democratic Party’s endorsement last week after party leaders called on him to back a mainline Democratic takeover of the Senate.
