New York Nonprofit Media has undergone a bit of a re-branding. Our new logo and website have been designed to be more consistent with the family of logos and websites under the City & State umbrella. The daily Buzz section however will continue to provide a forum for the latest news from inside the New York nonprofit sector.

The Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services hosted its 29th annual spring gala at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan on April 26. The event honored outgoing president Alice Tisch and Stephanie Bernheim, a longtime trustee, in front of more than 350 guests, according to a press release. About $1.5 million was raised at the event for the 140-year-old organization, which provides a broad range of services in New York City and Westchester.

 

The City Record’s latest contract announcements include one to Help Social Service Corporation for $2.9 million from the New York City Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration. The one-year contract funds emergency shelter services for victims of domestic violence. Regent University of California Los Angeles has received a $139,000 contract with the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene for “developmental and school readiness,” according to The City Record. The Manhattan-based Lesbian and Gay Community Service Center meanwhile has landed a $2.25 million contract with that same department for youth clubhouse services, according to The City Record.

 

Niagara Lutheran Health System President Chris Koenig is getting some recognition next month. The Niagara Gazette reports that he will receive the Thomas Clarke Memorial Award from LeadingAge New York at a May 24 event in Saratoga Springs. The award recognizes personal integrity and professional dedication, a  among leaders in the senior care field, according to the Gazetta. Koenig joined Niagara Lutheran Health System as president in 2016.

 

Patch highlights the work of a Brooklyn nonprofit that builds urban farms. It won a second $500,000 grant from the Citi Foundation last week, one of a dozen New York City nonprofits that received such grants.
