Nonprofits across New York City rallied via social media yesterday to pressure the city to increase funding for summer youth programs. The upcoming weeks will decide the fate of their efforts as the mayor and City Council race towards a final budget early next month. This Twitter moment shows what nonprofits had to say yesterday, mostly under the hashtag #SaveSummer.
The nonprofit Dress for Success has added two ‘powerhouse women’ to its board of directors. Dale Bornstein is CEO of M Booth, a New York City communications firm and was previously named to PRWeek’s power list twice, according to a May 3 press release. She will be joined on the board by Linda Findley Kozlowski, COO of online marketplace Etsy.
There will be a new CEO at ExpandED Schools, a New York City-based nonprofit dedicated to closing the learning gap. A May 3 press release states that Jane Martinez Dowling will assume the role on July 9. She will bring about 25 years of education experience to the role where she succeeds Lucy Friedman, who has led the organization since 1998.
President Trump once again attacked the Johnson Amendment, which prevents nonprofits from conducting most types of political activity and fundraising. He echoed right wing attacks on the decades-old rule – which was nearly eliminated by the GOP tax plan – in a speech to faith leaders at the White House.

There's just one week left to apply for the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s 2018-19 Spark Prize. The organization is accepting online submissions for $100,000 “no strings attached” awards for Brooklyn nonprofits through Friday, May 11 at noon.
