Jennifer Sun and Thomas Yu will become co-executive directors of Asian Americans for Equality. They will take on the dual leadership roles on July 2, according to a press release. Sun managed the Rebuild Chinatown Initiative at the nonprofit advocacy organization after the September 11 attacks. Yu most recently has worked as the strategic development officer at the organization.

They will succeed Christopher Kui, who retired in December 2017 and Doris Koo, who served as the first executive director of the nonprofit from 1984 to 1992, as well as on an interim basis after Kui’s retirement.

 

New York City Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services Herminia Palacio has established a new task force to confront homelessness among youth. A June 14 press release states that 15 city agencies, 26 nonprofits and 10 youth will participate in the Youth Homelessness Taskforce, which will develop a plan over six months to prevent and end youth homelessness.

Involved nonprofits are The Coalition for Homeless Youth, Ali Forney Center, The Legal Aid Society, The Door, Sheltering Arms, Good Shepherd Services, Covenant House, Supportive Housing Network of New York, Jericho Project, Safe Horizon, Bailey House, GEMS, CSH, Children’s Village, West End Residences, Point Source Youth, Urban Justice Center, Princess Janae Place, Destination Tomorrow, Hetrick-Martin Institute, Advocates for Children, Youth Invincibles, Homeless Services United, Coalition for the Homeless, Gay Men’s Health Crisis, and Volunteers of America Greater New York.

As part of the effort, the city has also hired Cole Giannone as a senior consultant for youth homelessness.


 

Services for the UnderServed has secured a $3.4 million contract with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The money will fund psychosocial rehabilitation services for adults, according to the City Record. The department has also given a $1.84 million contract to BronxWorks for mental health treatment.

The Administration for Children’s Services has entered a $3.74 million contract to Counseling Service E.D.N.Y. for drug testing services, according to the City Record. Prospective providers of prevention services for families experiencing domestic violence should submit their bids by Aug. 1 according to another post in the City Record.

 

The Music Conservatory of Westchester announced the winners of a student mural contest on June 14. Winners of the “Colors of Music” competition get to paint their work on the side of the nonprofit’s building in White Plains, according to a press release. Pelham Memorial High School student Mya Madison Davis and White Plains High School student Ciara Sergi were the winners, according to a press release from the nonprofit.
