Model contracts for human services contractors will be the topic of discussion today at a joint meeting of the New York City committees on contracts and general welfare. The meeting will go down at 1 p.m. at 250 Broadway, across the street from City Hall.

The issue of delays in city contracts with nonprofits as well as how city funding falls short of fully covering the costs of services has been a source of friction between the city and nonprofits in recent years. Gotham Gazette published an extensive update of the situation on June 20.

As part of that role he will oversee the fiscal management of city, state and federal grants, according to a June 18 press release. Ryan health has a network of 18 nonprofit sites, including six community health centers, seven school centers, and a mobile medical van.

 

The Door - A Center of Alternatives has received a $370,000 contract with the New York City Department of Social Services/Human Resources Administration. The money will fund the provision of legal services for children in removal proceedings in New York immigration court – mostly retroactively through June 30 of this year – according to the City Record. The department also awarded a $259,000 contract to Public Consulting Group, a Boston-based organization. The funds will cover the provision of consultant services for “HHS Agencies, Category Four,” according to the City Record.

 

The Administration for Children’s Services, which oversees some of the facilities where migrant children are currently being held,  has made an “emergency” purchase of $23,000 worth of prescription medication and supplies from Chem Rx Pharmacy in Long Beach. No further details were included in a City Record post, however press reports have said that migrant children separated from their families at the U.S. border received drugs at a Texas facility. UPDATE: a spokesperson for ACS clarified post-publication that this emergency purchase of prescriptions and supplies was unrelated to the issue of migrant children.

A and A Moving and Trucking is giving the Department of Homeless Services some on-call moving help, under a new $456,000 contract that ran through April 2018, according to the City Record.

The Department of Probation opted to give a contract through Oct. 2019 to Community Mediation Services. A total cost was not available but the contract will fund services in Queens under an alternative-to-placement program for young adults called ECHOES.

 

A new scholarship will fund a master’s in social work at Fordham for one staff member at Catholic Charities Federation agency. A June 19 press release states that the inaugural winner of the scholarship is Yesika Alvarez Mosquera from Mercy Center, a community center in the Bronx. Five total scholarships will be awarded in upcoming years.
