Debbie Wright is the new managing director for the Rockefeller Foundation’s U.S. Jobs and Economy Opportunity Initiative. A July 30 press release states that she most recently served as chairman of Carver Bancorp, and Carver Federal Savings Bank. She was also previously the commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development.

Darren Walker is getting some recognition from the design community. The president of the Ford Foundation will receive the Director’s Award of the 2018 National Design Awards from the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York, Black News Portal reports. The award is given for outstanding support and patronage of the design community. He will receive the honor later this year.

“With a courageous vision for fighting social inequality, Darren has long been a champion of design as a democratizing force for good and a problem-solving catalyst for change,” Caroline Baumann, director of the museum said, according to the online digital magazine. “I am delighted to recognize Darren for his inspiring leadership and unwavering support of organizations across all spheres of influence who are working to build an inclusive and strong civil society around the world.”

 

Thomas Neve, of Reaching-Out Community Services in Brooklyn got some recognition for his longtime passion for altruism. His co-workers nominated him for a Daily News Hometown Heroes award in public service in recognition of his work doing everything from feeding the hungry to delivering toys for kids.
