The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation has a rundown of federal legislative proposals related to Medicaid and opioids. This includes updates on the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients and Communities Act in the House, as well as the Helping to End Addiction and Lessen (HEAL) Substance Use Disorders Act in the Senate.
“The most controversial measure in the House bill amends the long-standing prohibition against the use of federal Medicaid funds for services in “institutions for mental disease” (IMDs) for nonelderly adults,” the post states.
The New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development has awarded two contracts to fund an emergency loan program to prevent homelessness called Project Help. Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens CDC received a $300,000 contract, according to the City Record. Neighborhood Housing Services of Brooklyn Bedford-Stuyvesant received a $150,000 contract.
DeAnna Hoskins is going to take over the presidency at the New York City-based JustLeadershipUSA on July 15. She overcame drug addiction to eventually join the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance during the Obama administration, where she managed the Second Chance Act portfolio, according to a press release. Before that, she was a founding reentry director at the Hamilton County Board of County Commissioners in Ohio, among other positions. She also delivered a commencement address at Chatfield College in 2017 in Ohio.
Hospice of Westchester raised about $63,000 at a June 19 golf event, held at Westchester Hills golf Club in White Plains. That fundraising haul was a record amount for a golf invitational held by the nonprofit healthcare agency, which provides resources for people diagnosed with serious and life-limiting illnesses.

Public Health Solutions has received a $700,000 grant from the OneCity Health Innovation Fund. The money will go towards implementing the Food and Nutrition Services Bundle project, a partnership among Healthfirst, H+H Hospitals Jacobi and Lincoln, Bronxworks, The Food Bank of New York City, God’s Love We Deliver and other organizations. The grant will fund the establishment of a ”coordinated intake system for food and nutrition services” that will help medical patients enroll in SNAP, WIC and other social programs, according to a June 25 press release.
