A board member at the Robin Hood Foundation is the new CEO of Goldman Sachs, according to The New York Times. David Solomon had been assumed to be the successor to Lloyd Blankfein since he was named the firm’s sole president this spring, but the timing of this latest appointment was a surprise, according to the Times.

“Mr. Solomon, who works on strategy and deals with top executives at companies like Walt Disney Company, Uber and 3M, comes from one of the firm’s mainstay divisions. But his personal interests, which include a side gig as an electronic dance music D.J., would make him an unconventional bank chief executive,” the Times wrote.

A bill introduced to the U.S. Senate would fund the development of a pilot program that would predict which children are most at risk of maltreatment. At least $10 million would be set aside for the predictive analytics idea, according to the bill, S. 3039, sponsored by Sen. Todd Young of Indiana. The Chronicle of Social Change published a story (paywall) on the bill earlier this month.

The Fortune Society got some help from comedian Tracy Morgan. Forbes reports that Morgan took time away from promoting his new show “The Original O.G.” to meet with program participants at the nonprofit, which helps thousands of recently incarcerated people each year re-enter society. A comedy night fundraiser with Cedric the Entertainer netted more than $14,000, according to Forbes.

“Our reaction was this is really an opportunity to amplify and humanize the experience of thousands and thousands of men and women,” said Stanley Richards, executive vice president at The Fortune Society.

Child Center of New York had an announcement about some new executives to share via social media on July 16. They are Jaime Angarita, who will be the new chief development officer after serving as chief operating officer. Linda Rodriguez will take over the behavioral health division at the nonprofit after serving as vice president of early childhood and prevention.

Tanya Kien and Marie Mason, formerly director of early head start and director of the Ficalora Family Foundation head start respectively, will now oversee early childhood education programs. Robert Cizma, vice president of health homes and integrated care is taking responsibility for prevention programs on top of his current duties and Amanda Etienne, previously associate director of youth development is getting promoted to vice president of her division. The New York City Administration for Children’s Services is entering into negotiations with Missouri Youth Services Institute for consulting services related to Raise the Age implementation. The proposed contract length would be through March 31, 2021, according to the City Record.

A 375 million year-old rock has not stopped Project Renewal from moving ahead with a $120 million housing development in the Bronx. Bedford Green House broke ground in November and will eventually house 300 people at 2865 Creston Avenue, with the first units slated to open next year, ThisIsTheBronx reports. The rock was too big, hard and expensive to move, so the nonprofit elected to build around the three-story boulder.

“It’s presence front and center of a forward-thinking project that’s designed to combat homelessness and provide vital affordability for Bronxites, only adds to the allure and wonder of what is going to be a special place to live in the Bronx,” the website writes.

Supporters of the project also tout the community engagement involved with the project, which will bring amenities such as a rooftop facilities to disadvantaged populations.

“It helps us fulfill our mission to end the cycle of homelessness,” Jody Rudin, interim president of Project Renewal said. “It also allows us to make real positive impact on the surrounding Bedford Park community with respect to healthy living, vertical farming, healthy eating, and health care opportunities.”
