Who is the new executive director of the Legal Project?

Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer joined nonprofit advocates in Harlem yesterday to push for Fair Futures. A coalition of 60 organizations is pushing for $50 million in the upcoming New York City budget to fund life coaching for young people as they grow out of the foster care system. Representatives from The Children’s Village and Graham Windham joined Brewer, a marching band and foster youth as they made some noise in support of the proposal.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness raised nearly $625,000 at a May 11 5k race in Manhattan. Actors Alex Bonielle (“Dear Evan Hansen”) and Patti Murin (“Frozen”) joined 4,000 people at the event to raise awareness about stigma surrounding mental illness. Proceeds will benefit peer-led support groups and educational programming, according to a press release.
The Legal Project has a new executive director. Michele Pollockrich has taken on the role, replacing the retiring Lisa Frisch. Pollockrich previously worked as a teacher at a Catholic school before her own experience with domestic violence inspired her to become an attorney. She stopped by the Capitol Pressroom on WCNY this week to discuss her story and how it affects her approach to running the nonprofit, which provides free legal services for people battling domestic violence and other legal issues.
The Jewish Child Care Association of New York raised $820,000 at a May 14 event in Manhattan. Nearly 300 people were on hand at the event, which was hosted by WNYC news host Richard Hake and included remarks by JCCA CEO Judge Ronald Richter, according to a press release.
There is a new chief relationship officer at Charity Navigator. Kevin Scally will take the lead on user relationships and engagements at the charity evaluator, according to a May 21 press release. Scally previously worked as at senior director of marketing infrastructure at Smile Train, an international charity that works with children suffering from cleft lip.
