Robin Hood names new CEO

Robin Hood, which funds New York City nonprofits combating poverty, has selected Richard Buery Jr. as its new CEO. 

Buery, who will take the reins in September, currently heads Achievement First, a charter school network of 37 schools. He previously led other nonprofits, such as Groundwork and Children’s Aid, and has also served as deputy mayor for New York City. While in the public sector, he played a key role in developing Mayor Bill de Blasio’s signature policy to implement universal pre-K for 4-year-olds in the city.

He will be succeeding Wes Moore, who left the organization this February to pursue a gubernatorial bid in Maryland that he officially launched earlier this month. 

“Leading Robin Hood at this moment of profound transformation in our City, one that poses significant risks and possibilities for its most vulnerable residents, is truly the opportunity of a lifetime,” Buery said in a statement.
