Homeless shelter operator to run Trump golf course

The City Record posted a notice on Monday, indicating that President Donald Trump would be replaced as the operator of the Trump Golf Links in the Bronx by a homeless shelter manager.

Ferry Point Links LLC was awarded a 13-year deal with the city’s Parks Department to take over the 18-hole golf course, which according to state corporation records is one of New York City’s largest homeless shelter operators, CORE Community Services, The City reported. 

According to the contract agreement, the company is expected to pay the city $300,000 a year or 7% of its gross revenue, depending on whichever is higher, to the city. It will be expected to pay 10% of gross revenue after it hits the 13-year mark of its contract with the city. Bobby Jones Links, an Atlanta-based company, will be working alongside CORE and will be “managing the operation of the concession.”

After protestors stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 5, Mayor Bill de Blasio decided to sever all ties with the Trump Organization, which then-controlled Central Park’s Lasker Rink, Wollman Rink and carousel, and the Bronx golf course. “Inciting an insurrection against the U.S. government clearly constitutes criminal activity,” the mayor said at the time. “The city of New York will no longer have anything to do with the Trump Organization.”

While the organization’s contracts to run the ice skating rinks and carousel were about to expire, Trump was expected to remain the operator of the Bronx golf course until 2035. The Trump Organization has filed a suit against the city, alleging that it did not have grounds to terminate its contract with the organization and is requesting $30 million.

“The city has no right to award the license to another operator,” Ken Caruso, an attorney for the Trump Organization, told The City. “The Trump Organization’s long-term license for this property is legally binding, enforceable, and remains in full force and effect.”
