DYCD hosts its first-ever capacity building event for nonprofit faith-based organizations

More than 100 attendees came to a New York City Department of Youth and Community Development event focused on faith-based nonprofits and answering their questions on the best ways to access city grants and other funds. 

Among topics covered at the “How Faith-Based Organizations Can Access City Funding” event Thursday at the David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building were the creation of PASSPort accounts; what to expect after being funded; the “dos and don’ts” of city funding and usage of community center spaces. 

In attendance were DYCD Commissioner Keith Howard and staff; Pastor Gilford Monrose, Faith Advisor, Office of the Mayor, and the Executive Director of the Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships; as well as representatives from the City Council, Mayor’s Office of Contract Services and Community Resource Exchange.

Attendees had the opportunity to learn about how to apply for city funding, such as City Council discretionary grants. Applications for discretionary funding are expected to open next month.

In a recent survey conducted by DYCD, 90% of faith-based community organizations throughout New York City, found that learning how to address the challenges associated with city funding was a priority, according to information about the event provided by the agency.
