Nonprofits and advocates have warned for years that their financial circumstances are close to a breaking point. But few expected the challenges that would come with the new administration in Washington and the potential for deep cuts to social services spending. Now, as the state and the city hammer out their budgets, the issues are coming to the forefront.
The Sustain Our Sanctuary campaign, which encompasses 218 organizations, is asking for a 12 percent across-the-board increase, about $500 million, to shore up the sector as well as improve operations.
